Ecosia “Ağaç Diken Arama Motoru” yapılan aramalardan elde ettiği gelirlerle dünyanın çeşitli yerlerinde milyonlarca ağaç diken bir arama motorudur. Küresel ısınmaya ve ormanların yok olmasına karşı yenilikçi bir yaklaşımda bulunuyor.

Alman girişimci Christian Kroll da 2009 yılında bu fikirden yola çıkarak Ecosia adını verdiği arama motorunu oluşturmuş. Ecosia, yapılan aramalar ve gösterilen reklamlar sayesinde gelir elde eder. Elde ettiği gelirin %80 gibi önemli bir bölümünü dünyanın çeşitli yerlerinde ağaç dikmek için kullanıyor.

Ecosia’nın 7 milyon aktif kullanıcısı var ve bugüne kadar yaklaşık 60 milyon ağaç dikilmesini sağlamışlar. Ayrıca anasayfada bulunan sayaç sayesinde şimdiye kadar kaç ağacın dikilmesini sağladığınızı görebiliyorsunuz. Bir ağacın dikilebilmesi için yaklaşık 45 arama yapılması gerekiyor. Bu ağaçlar sayesinde Ecosia’da yapılan her bir arama atmosferden ortalama 1 kilogram karbondioksit gazının azalmasını sağlıyor.

Eğer Ecosia, Google kadar kullanılan bir arama motoru olsaydı basit bir hesapla atmosfere saldığımız karbondioksitin %15’ini yok etmeyi sağlayabilirdi.Yani Google yerine Ecosia’yı kullanıyor olsaydık dünyadaki bütün fosil yakıtlı araçların yaptığı karbon salınımını yok edebilirdik. Ayrıca her yıl dünyada 50 milyar ağaç dikilmiş olurdu.

Ecosia’nın gerçekten ağaç diktiğini nasıl bilebiliriz?

Sadece internette arama yaparak ağaç dikme fikri kulağa ilk başta gerçek olamayacak kadar güzel gelse de. Ecosia tüm gelirlerini ve ağaç dikme kampanyalarını kullanıcılarına şeffaf hale getirmiş. İsteyen herkes internet sitesine girip aylık finansal raporlarını indirip inceleyebilir.

Ayrıca Ecosia youtube kanalında ağaçların dikimini ve orman oluştuktan sonra bölge halkının nasıl faydalar sağladığını anlatan videolar da yayınlıyor.

Tabi ki kendi paylaştıkları bu bilgiler de tam olarak inandırıcı olmayabilir. Ancak Ecosia 2014 yılından beri B Şirketi belgesine sahip. B şirketi belgesi bağımsız denetleyiciler tarafından topluma yüksek derecede fayda sağlayan şirketlere verilen bir sertifika. Yani Ecosia’nın aramalardan elde edilen gelirle ağaç diktiği bağımsız denetleyiciler tarafından da belgelenmiş.

Ecosia, genellikle çölleşmeye yaklaşan ve yerel halkın yoksul olduğu bölgelerde ağaçlandırma yapıyor. Böylece kurak bir arazi orman haline getiriliyor ve bölgedeki tarım faaliyetleri teşvik eder. Yoksul olan yerel halka da hayatlarını sürdürebilmeleri için gelir kapısı açılmış oluyor. Ayrıca ağaçlandırılan bölgeler çok sayıda canlı türüne yaşam alanı sağlayarak bölgedeki biyolojik çeşitliliğe de önemli bir katkıda bulunuluyor.
